Also relativ doch gar nicht mal so schlecht.
Englisch version:
It has been raining a lot in the last couple of days. Last week we were lucky. On Thursday Jan took a half day off (once a month he is entitled to do so) and because of my 3-day-week I had a day off too.
With best weather and bright sunshine we made us on the way to hike another mountain. I have mentioned it before: right behind the southern city limits of Dublin start the Wicklow Mountains and their foothills. To reach our destination, the Three Rock Mountain it only took us less than 20 minutes from home (red pin).
You can see Three Rock Mountain from far away, especially when you are driving the motorway around Dublin (M50). It's not because of its special shape, but because of all the high masts and antennas on its summit. Whether it's beautiful or not - you have to decide it yourself. In fact they are a beautiful theme for a picture.
Starting where we parked our car (blue pin) we went up a private road that quickly turns into a forest road. It won't take you long until you reach Three Rock Mountain (red star). In fact it is not really a mountain itself, it's just a "shoulder" of Fairy Castle. From here you have a lovely view over everything near and far. We could even see our home and the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland.
From here it continues to Fairy Castle (yellow star). Fairies and castles? Far wrong. This ancient cross-way is marked by a huge cairn, remains of a portal tomb. You will have another gorgeous view from here.
For the decent we used the other shoulder, Two Rock Mountain (green star). While walking you have a fabulous view over Bray Bay and the three Mountains next to another: Bray Head, Little Sugarloaf and Great Sugarloaf.
To be honest it is not a real hike in comparison to the Bavarian Alps. With just 536m Fairy Castle is not really a high mountain, but you always have to remember that we start at sea level over here. So, it's not that bad indeed. And scenic-wise this tour is kind of a dream. Hopefully there will be another couple of nice days this summer to enjoy more of this great landscape!
